home producer of the year and three in the rock categories. fun made a splash this year, as well. the trio won two grammys including best new artist and song of the year. >> and the grammy goes to "we are young." >> she said we and we were like, could it be us? do you remember? >> we are -- it still could have been we are never getting back together. >> reporter: gotye took home three grammys. it was hard to tell if he was more excited for the statues or his idol prince presented for the record of the year. >> a little bit loss for words receiving an award from the man behind me. i was inspired to make music. thank you. >> reporter: the trophies are nice but it's usually the performances that the fans end up remembering the most. ♪ [ music ]♪ taylor swift got things started with a mad hatter ren decision of her hit single, we are never

getting back together. ♪ [ music ]♪ >> reporter: and what better way to make a comeback, justin timberlake used the industry's biggest stage to relaunch his music career. >> and frank, the good times sure carried on after the show. the official grammys after- party was a theme for "bollywood." they had belly dancers, gymnasts, good food. i'm sure the party carried on. >> sounds like you had a long night, too, or some fun. teresa, tell us about some of the interesting collaborations that happened on stage. they actually grouped some performers together that you wouldn't put together normally. >> reporter: it was interesting. alicia keys performed with maroon 5 and she was playing the drum before she performed

night's grammy show. los angeles officials also announced a $1 million reward. it comes as the search for the former cop winds down in the mountains east of l.a. meantime, l.a.'s police chief has reopened an investigation into the circumstances of dorner's firing. >> he was to give himself up, we would be glad to listen to what he has to say. >> dorner claims he was fired for roaring a fellow officer for excessive fors. the last clue investigators have of dorner's whereabouts was thursday when they found his burned pickup truck near a mountain resort. it is 5:06. the man suspected in killing of a 13-year-old suisun city girl is due back in court on wednesday. anthony lamar jones of fairfield was arrested friday. he is suspected of killing genelle conway allen whose naked body was found a week earlier in fairfield's allan witt park. restraining order documents obtained by the fairfield daily republic suggests jones had grown increasingly violent in

the days right before the murder. in the documents, jones he is strained wife described an incident which she -- the two were together in a car. "anthony looked at me and said, i don't want to scare you but i have a knife and a gun and i don't want to die alone." she said at that point, she jumped out of the moving car. the restraining order against jones was issued february 1, the day conway allen's body was found. there are no arrests for a deadly shooting in the cambrian neighborhood of santa clara county. a man was found shot to death on rhonda drive yesterday afternoon. another man showed up at goodman hospital at about -- good samaritan hospital at about the same time. he had been wounded in the same shooting. he is expected to your is "survivor." palo alto police are looking for this armed robbery suspect described as a black male in his late 20s to early 30s, about 5'8", with a thin build. he robbed a man at gunpoint saturday in the carport of an apartment complex near west bayshore road. detectives are also

the accident happened yesterday afternoo ilton a corvette goes off a cliff in the east san jose foothills yesterday afternoon on the mount hamilton road. they found the convertible buried in the brush. chp sent a chopper from napa to rescue the driver, who has some head injuries. specialized rescue crews from san jose as fire department were called in to fix ropes and extricate the driver all while battling a lot of difficulties. >> access problems, steepness, the injuries to the patient, getting him out of the car at that level. >> took about two hours to bring the driver to the road surface. he was then flown to a trauma center. as for the corvette, its windshield is crushed on the driver's side. it took several hours to lift that up and get it out of the ravine, as well. >> scary. >> guess so. >> 5:15 right now. let's get a check on the roads. >> water, table 5.

generators on board, the 4,000 people still have electricity. good news there. all started in the engine room. nobody was injured. a tugboat is on its way now to rescue the cruise liner which is expected to reach near the port of progresso sometime on wednesday. a tragedy strikes a reality show near los angeles. a helicopter crashed outside of acton sunday morning killing three people. they were all taking part in a new military-style show for the discovery channel when that accident happened. federal aviation authorities are now investigating. a republican senator is threatening to delay the confirmation of two of president obama's appointees. senator lindsey graham may hold up the nominations of brennan and hagel. they want to force the white house to answer questions about last year's attack on the u.s. consulate in benghazi. >> i want to know what our president did, what did he do as commander-in-chief.

this morning announcing he is resigning his position as the head of the catholic church effective at the end of the month. the 85-year-old leader says he is too weak to continue. right now there are several contenders in the weeks but no front-runner. a professor of sociology at catholic university of america says they saw this coming. >> it is a surprise but on the other hand, in the past pope benedict has indicated if he did not have the strength to exercise the ministry as is needed, that he might step down. so he did leave some indications if he felt in the situation that he seems to be in now that he would take this course of action. >> here's an expert of the pope's statement. after having repeatedly examined my conscience before god, i have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the petrine ministry. both strength of mind and body

california this week trying to convince businesses that the lone star state is a better place to set up shop. kpix 5 reporter elissa harrington is in sunnyvale where go daddy is opening some new offices. >> reporter: good morning. this follows a 30-second ad that was just launched that says texas is wide open for business. >> building a business is tough. but i hear building a business in california is next to impossible! >> reporter: that's part of that ad. texas wants california businesses. officials are hoping that businesses will be lured there as californians face record high taxes. governor perry will visit san francisco the silicon valley and los angeles this week. he is going to met with companies to give his pitch. part of that, there's no income tax in texas. and labor and environmental laws are more lenient. california has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country at 9.8%. now, while it might be unlikely for existing businesses to move, perry will also be targeting startups and large

companies that might want to open a branch in texas. for example, facebook and ebay are headquartered in the bay area. but they have campuses in texas. chevron also just moved 800 jobs to houston. governor brown is not taking perry's visit too seriously. >> a lot of these texans they comer who they don't go back. who would want to spend you know their summers in 110- degree heat inside some kind of a fossil fueled air- conditioner? not a smart way to go. >> still there's a lot of reasons that companies continue opening up in california including go daddy.com. i'm outside of their silicon valley headquarters, their first building here in california. they are an arizona-based company so there will be 40 jobs here now in the silicon valley and they say they want to be here because they want to be in the tech hub of the country. reporting live in sunnyvale, elissa harrington, kpix 5.

covering up the "s" word with tape. >> bums me out. >> reporter: let's talk about the other bay area connections. bonnie raitt didn't break the dress coast but she did take home a grammy. it was number 10 for bonnie. she said she was inspired by the bay area and the redwoods while making her latest album, americana. next up, mtt, mr. michael tilton thomas and the san francisco symphony. ah, boys and gals did it again, number 15 for the sf symphony and, of course, we cannot forget the late great jazz legend dave brubeck. dave brubeck, we lost him last year. he was remembered by the entertainment at yesterday's ceremony. -- by the academy at yesterday's ceremony. another big name this weekend, 49er himself colin kaepernick was seen at a couple of the

grammy parties. he was a little star struck, surprised that people knew who he was. he came looking for music "a" listers and ended up with cathy griffin. it could have been worse. he could have ended up with me. i did however get to hang out with my favorite band, fun. so a great night at the grammys. i got a wink from bon if i rate. i got a smile from a beach boy. and i got a wink from bonnie raitt and i did it all without breaking the dress code. >> you didn't go to bed last night? you were live at 11 and still going strong. >> bed? i don't know what you're talking about. i was doing research at the after parties. here's the good news. i will be back in an hour to tell you what happened at those after parties. >> oh, good. can't wait to hear. liam, by the way, we saw that picture of you and fun? looked like a lot of fun and they were surprised they got an award, right? >> reporter: you know, these guys have been around for 12 years. they won two grammys yesterday. it was a big night for fun. they were surprised to win at

>> i'm michelle griego. time now just about 6:00. breaking introduces from the vatican, pope benedict xvi is stepping down. >> alan pizzey is in rome with more on this. >> reporter: benedict xvi announced his resignation came as a surprise to pane but told a couple of his closest aides several weeks ago that he was going to do this. they kept it quiet. the pope said he did this after a period of deep reflection and conversations with god, a lot of praying and he felt it was the right thing to do. a papal spokesman said there is no specific health reason, no specific reason of pressure on the papacy that made him decide to do this. he thought unlike others who soldiered on to the end he felt the work was too important to carry on in a weakened stated so he decided to resign. that resignation is official at 8 p.m. rome time on february 28th.

after that, there will be a conclave, a gathering of cardinals from all around the world and they will elect a new pope in secret within the sistine chapel. the vatican hopes they will have a new pope in time for holy week on march 24. there is no reason to suspect they won't but as soon as the pope resigns, he disappears. he will spend a couple of weeks in castle in a castle. he will stay at the vatican. it will be as if he died but will just be hidden away. alan pizzey, cbs news, rome. we switch gears in a big way now. how did your favorite musicians do at the grammys? cbs reporter teresa garcia joins us live from los angeles with a look
